Reimagining CEO Selection: A Management-Centric Approach to Leadership Elections
About
(CEO) is one of the most pivotal decisions a company can make. Traditionally, shareholder influence, particularly from those with large stakes in a company, has played a central role in CEO selection. However, this method often raises concerns over the prioritization of wealth and influence over professional competence and leadership qualities. A growing argument suggests that CEO elections should instead be based solely on the qualifications of the nominated candidate, with decisions made by a qualified management board. This approach would shift the focus from shareholder influence to the professional capacity and credentials of the individual selected for the role. In doing so, the organization would prioritize the long-term health of the company, free from the biases and short-term interests of major shareholders. This book explores the idea of electing a CEO based on the qualifications of the candidate and the qualifications of a management board, rather than on shareholder votes or the financial influence wielded by them.
